Our headphones were tested against dozens of models at varying price points, as well as through many different environments to get an overall comparison of what is on the market. 

high-fidelity analysis

Testing sound quality based on factory specifications and response curves is not applicable for headphones since individual ears, artificial test ears, and testing equipment produces diverse results and cannot accurately measure details such as mechanical, distant, and muddy sounds.  We auditioned using music of various genres as well as both CDs and MP3s (encoded at a 320k bitrate) since both formats are widespread and possess varying sound characteristics.  Many MP3s have digital artifacts that are magnified with hi-fidelity headphones and the quality of the audio source is nearly as important as the actual headphones.

For proper testing, we hired a well-respected audio engineer with formal ear training.  The engineer has professional experience as a former editor at the prominent consumer testing magazine, and has worked for prestigious audio brands including Sennheiser, Sapphire, and Tivoli.  Our engineers were not the only people who participated; our testing also included a regular panel of non-trained ears, musicians, and audiophiles. 

Headphones are broken in for a period of twenty-four hours; although break-in time may require up to forty-eight hours depending on the make and model to ensure maximum sound fidelity.

When looking for a headphone, one of the most important factors is comfort and security.  Comfort is why we chose to include a rubber ring and foam pad for Remix M-Class and different size fittings for Bass Fréq.  Cable lengths are also important for physical activities and ergonomics.  Special attention was given to optimize cable lengths, and modawrap provides convenient cable-length management and storage.  

When buying a headset it should not be a difficult process, yet many consumers are jaded by false sound quality claims, uncomfortable fitment, and lack of fashionable choices.  We found that if we made a quality product designed for optimal style, comfort, activity, and sound that it will simplify the buying decision.  Each of our models enjoys a unique sound stage and artful personality crafted for the individual.

Testing was performed internally to develop an optimal product, and is not intended for publication.  Our headphones’ sound stage is optimized for consumer audio enthusiasts, and therefore our consumer testing methods may favor higher bass levels than “studio monitors” which traditionally have “flat” response curves and less bass.

During testing we discovered that multiple pieces of same models have small variances due to factors including production dates, magnet consistency, micron-thin membranes, and manufacturer variance thresholds.  In one extreme example, three of another manufacturer's headphones that were purchased together had striking variances – revealing that the manufacturer neglected the average sound quality of the speaker drivers.
